As all the posts will not be read due to time i have complied a highlight post which will cover most of what i have done, Learnt, regret and general thoughts.
What i have actually done!
- Been CEO of Waifs & Strays
- Produced Board sides
- Concept Development
- Presentation Design
- Group Organizing
- Contact for Group
- CEO isnt an easy job!
- Group management can be hard work!
- Group Dynamics are VERY important
- I am good at presentation and selling a product
- I am able to evaluate good and bad ideas and help develop them
- I am able to make the most of People’s strengths
These points give a general feeling for how the project went and help understand what i have actually done and undertaken however they are only brief so here is a shortened timeline/ through train of the project.
From the start of the project the group Dynamics where off. It started with Me and Grant being thrown together and this was Fine Grant was a hard working person that is capable and helpful to the project and willing to follow. I was a person willing to throw big ideas out and control a group.
Jenni was a great addition as well as Dan both where able to put great ideas forward and where willing to contribute to the group with suggestions and general thoughts. Garvin and Prince where additions that i am sure are capable of doing great work but due to distance and lack of time with the group never really fitted in with the group no one knew exactly who there where what they did or how they fitted into the group. I should have as CEO stepped in been more forceful and brought the group together so this was a failing on my part one i wish to work on.
When we where told to re think of a concept Dan and Jenni really came into there own both very different but helpful aswell. Jenni provided a creative old world type of thought which fitted in nicely with Broadstairs Folk Week and Dan provide a modern logical approach. I was able to latch onto this and try to play of these strengths i also like Dan think Logically so every crazy idea we had i simply said “How will we manage that?” and if we didn’t know i would brain storm ideas on how it would be possible what are the strong points and what hits our demographic the most!
The concept Development and Concept its self where the best part of the pitch unforuntly to the group dynamics and lack of effort the final product couldn’t fulfill the great concept and defiantly sold its short in the end. The presentation looks professional and the concept more than keeps to the brief and would generally make a great idea but it needs more planning and refinement this feels like the star of a project not the final product.
In the end there are a lot of regrets and postative moments within the Work. I now feel confident in myself as a Leader as well as be strengths in the role the main challenge for me has been the group issues and my approach to them. I believe i was professional all the way through looking for solutions where needed and addressing issues despite the stigma attached to confronting a fellow student. I think with the removal of 2 members the group would have been stronger as we would have not relied on the other members as well as the group would have formed a closer and more creative bond.
I decided to compile the Board work into 1 Post to save on space ease of reading.
Below is a gallery of all the final Boards with the creators of each one. The colour Theme was taking from the Broadstiars Folk Week 2012 and inspried by this aswell. All pieces where created with the size and applicability in mind. I have also put in the two images of the Cube in WestWood Cross which i made for the presentation the Photos where taken by my for this aswell as Google images and open source images where not aviliable for this one. I have however missed out the Card images i made for the work as they are a TIFF format which WP does not allow my to upload.
The images where great and overall linked in theme and style. There where many drafts of each withe feedback inspiring new ideas and changes to each one including very subtle colour changes along the way and shadows etc.
The metal boarder on 2 images was an idea of what it would look like on a presentation board which was how we think it could actually be produced in life size.

After the long haul of getting the Board’s up to scratch we are able to continue onto the next stage of development which will be the presentation.
Within Class we discussed the Presentation and came to an arrangement that i would start the first draft of the presentation that would be the main content then pass it onto others for the “Design” element. I created a version that gave our piece some structure and was able to be passed onto Jenni who volunteered to put the design element onto the work.
Jenni did a great job producing a re drafted version of the Presentation and i was able to see how my structure enabled her to get it to this stage. It was probably one of the best moments of a “Team” element we have had as a group.
I also informed the group that i would be unable to attended the official presentation Date due to a Family Emergency. I passed on all the files and information to Jenni and Dan who would take over and finish the presentation themselves. I kept in close contact with Jenni to keep up to date and help out where needed mainly with feedback on the presentation drafts. Dan and Jenni also met up in Uni to discuss ideas and put the final Video produced by Dan into the Piece.
I will re present the work on my own to Kate for the final Grade however i am happy that i was able to help with the pre-production and Presentation i trust that Dan, Grant and Jenni will all do a great job with the final presentation.
After sending out the schedule and talking with members within the group before we broke up for 4 Weeks we are still in countering issues with certain members.
The day before the first draft of the Board side should be sent to me i have sent out an email asking for all of the group to fulfill the deadline’s set as a reminder. The next day i recived no work at all this meant that unfortuntly i could not send out the sides of the board for feedback. I followed this up by sending out an official email giving all members that where due to hand in work a final chance to do so or they could be removed from the Group. Grant was quick to reply with a great piece of work and an apology which i was very happy to see Grant has been a solid member all the way through and continues to show commitment and enthusiasm in the developmental and creative process. To cover the loss of work i asked Grant to produce an extra side of the Cube and i also took on an extra side along with the Cards for the Game of Pairs.
I received no replies for this email from Garvin or Prince for quite some time. Garvin eventually replied saying he had been having troubles with his Email and passed me on a Phone number to contact him on. I was eventually able to contact Garvin who still was unsure on what he was supposed to be doing and generally unaware of event he concept despite being in the lesson where we re-capped the work as a group. Prince Emailed me the day before we returned to class with an apology and a quick mock up of his side of the board which Grant had already completed in the time of Prince’s absence. Prince’s work was also an example of something that was clearly rushed and not to the standard required from any design professional. I decided to speak to Kate about these issues as i have been following the guidelines for professorially practice i had previously given them a verbal warning and then a written warning through email the next step would be dismisal however with only 1 week until the deadline it would be unfair to shut them out. I have decided to not use there work for the final piece unless it improves a great deal but they will remain in the group and submit there work to Kate for marking so they do not fail.
We broke up half way through working on the assignment to work on the individual projects for the Design Museum Breif. The time away was slightly annoying due to the timing however we have had our first lesson back and are straight back into Work.
The first lesson was simply a re-group and re-cap I was present along with Grant, Prince and Jenni. We talked through any changes in skillset or work approach and went through the ideas we had previously talked about including the Cube. Happy to continue with this we decided to create a schedule together. I also raised the issue of lack of commitment for certain members with creating the sides of the board as up to now i was the only one to complete this task.
This was a fresh start however we decided roles for each member put it down on a Word Doc. and sent out the whole group at the end of the lesson in order to start bringing the work together (Word Doc that was sent out Schedule). This stage is really important to the group dynamics and the final presentation.
I shall start to work on my sides of the Cube and await feedback from others.
My Task for the hloiday is to complete a 500px by 500px jpeg image that can be sent to Dan to be added to a 3D model of the pop up tent idea. The idea i will be doing is the puzzle side. Below is my first draft this is the hobby horse with infomation and sponsers. This idea works well as it gets the infomation across however does not appeal to kids as well as liked i shall try to add a bit more colour to it maybe some imagery too. it does show how it might work and gives us an idea however.
